The International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided that the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 will have the same prize money as the men’s tournament. This is the first time in the history of international cricket that both a women’s and men’s event will be offering identical prize money. As per the decision, the winners of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 will receive USD 2.34 million—a massive 134 per cent increase from the USD 1 million awarded to Australia in the previous edition held in South Africa in 2023. This development is expected to set a new precedent for gender parity in international cricket and inspire other sporting bodies to follow suit.
